Competitive Gymnastics

Competitive gymnastics is a difficult and demanding sport. Competitive gymnasts require a tremendous amount of strength, flexibility, endurance, power, speed, agility, and form. In addition to the physical requirements of a gymnast; they must also have a great mental awareness. Gymnastics stretches not only the body but also the mind. We combine these attributes to become the best athlete possible.

Everyone has their own reasons for participating in competitive gymnastics and each individual has their own strengths and weaknesses. The athletes work with their coach to ensure the highest level of success. Competitive gymnastics is a time commitment. Athletes are expected to train anywhere from 4 hours to 16 hours a week.

Competitive gymnasts are superb athletes who dedicate themselves to learning not only the skills, but the technique, form and perfection behind the skills. The amount of courage, physical abilities, and mental abilities it takes to become a high level gymnast are great assets that the athletes develop for the rest of their lives.

At Polarettes and Polar Tumblers Gymnastics we offer both a Men's Program and Women's Program for competitive gymnastics. Children must be 5 years or older to enter our program and most stay for a number of years.

You may become a member of our Competitive Program only through individual acceptance. We have tryouts at least once a year to find athletes who would like to become a competitive gymnast.

Pre-Competitive

This program is for our beginner gymnasts. They have recently entered the competitive program or they are under the age of 7. The pre-competitive gymnast begins learning the correct technique for all the skills and works on all the apparatus.

Competitive Athletes aged 8 - 9

Typically these athletes are too young to travel outside the territory. They may compete in the Yukon Championships and are learning the necessary skills and routines for level 1.

Territory Athletes
These athletes are mature enough and have a high enough skill level to travel outside the territory and compete in different competitions throughout the competitive season.

If you are already a competitive member - please check the "competitive notices" page of our website at least once a week to keep up-to-date on activities in the club.
